GAZA, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- At least 64 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, as the Israeli military urged Gaza City residents to leave ahead of expanded fighting.

Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for Gaza's Civil Defense, told Xinhua that 14 people were killed when an Israeli aircraft bombed an apartment building in the Tal al-Hawa neighborhood, southwest of Gaza City, while 10 others were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a residential house in the al-Daraj neighborhood, east of the city.

Basal said that 10 people were killed in attacks on apartments and tents housing displaced residents in the Al-Nasr and Sheikh Radwan neighborhoods in northern Gaza City. He noted that five people were killed in a bombing of a Palestinian gathering in Jabalia, north of the Strip, and three others were killed in an attack on a food pantry near the beach in western Gaza City.

In the central Gaza Strip, 12 people were killed, including 10 who were waiting for food near an aid distribution point at the Netzarim axis, and two in an Israeli airstrike on the city of Deir al-Balah.

Basal said 10 people were killed in Khan Younis, including six who were waiting for food near an aid distribution warehouse, while four others died in separate airstrikes on the city.

Since Israel resumed its intensified military campaign on March 18, at least 11,502 Palestinians have been killed and 48,900 others injured, bringing the overall death toll in Gaza since the war began in October 2023 to 63,633, with 160,914 others injured, according to health authorities in Gaza on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Avichay Adraee, spokesperson for the Israeli army, called on residents of Gaza City to move to the Al-Mawasi area, west of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip.

The Civil Defense Authority in Gaza expressed concern about the Israeli military's intention to evacuate the Gaza and Northern Governorates.

In a statement, the authority warned that the Israeli plan to displace approximately one million Palestinians from their homes will have very serious repercussions that will lead to a major catastrophe.

It called on international humanitarian organizations to stand in solidarity with humanitarian service providers in the Gaza Strip, demand the implementation of international humanitarian law and international conventions, and protect civil defense teams.

It also called on the United Nations and international humanitarian organizations to pressure Israel to provide tents and caravans for the displaced in camps and shelters, especially as winter approaches.

Israel has been waging a large-scale war in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, following an unprecedented attack by Hamas on southern Israel, which, according to Israeli authorities, resulted in the deaths of about 1,200 people and the capture of more than 250 hostages.
